Hypsugo alashanicus
Rare visitor: recorded only occasionally in this country
Range
Mongolia and China through the Russian Far East to Korea and Tsushima
The Alashanian pipistrelle is a vesper bat currently placed in Hypsugo, though older sources may call it Pipistrellus alaschanicus. Nikolay Bobrinski described it in 1926 from the Alashan Range of Mongolia. It was once treated as a subspecies of Savi's pipistrelle before recognition as a full species. The taxonomic position of Korean bats has also varied, with some authors proposing the separate name Hypsugo coreensis (Mammal Diversity Database; Wikipedia, general species account).
The documented distribution extends from Mongolia and China through the Russian Far East to North and South Korea and Tsushima. Mammal Diversity Database also lists Korean pipistrelle as an alternative English name. The available opened accounts establish its range and complicated naming history but provide too little dependable species-level information to add measurements, diet, roost type, breeding or Korean field-identification criteria. Those details remain omitted pending a fuller accessible species study (Mammal Diversity Database; NCBI Taxonomy).
