Rare visitor: recorded only occasionally in this country
Diet
Invertebrates
Habitat
Subtropical or tropical moist lowland, mangrove and moist montane forest
Range
Himalaya and Manchuria to Southeast Asia
The grey-capped pygmy woodpecker is a small, dark woodpecker with dark eyes, barred black and white above, usually with unbarred central tail feathers. The dark buff underside has prominent dark streaking. The dark grey crown, with a red nape in males, strong black eyestripes and thin dark malar stripes contrast with broad white eyebrows and cheeks. It has a subspecies in Manchuria, eastern Siberia and Korea (Wikipedia, general species account).
Its range extends from the Himalaya and Manchuria to Southeast Asia, in subtropical or tropical moist lowland, mangrove and moist montane forest. The cached account gives no measurements, diet or breeding information, so these are not inferred from related woodpeckers. The Korean vertebrate catalogue used for this guide records the species in South Korea, but the opened sources do not identify a dependable Korean viewing locality.
