Murina ussuriensis
Rare visitor: recorded only occasionally in this country
Range
Northeast Asia, including the Korean Peninsula, Russian Far East and Japan
The Ussuri tube-nosed bat, Murina ussuriensis, is a vesper bat in the tube-nosed genus Murina. The genus name reflects the short tubular nostrils projecting from the muzzle, but species identification within Murina also depends on dental, cranial and external measurements. Current mammal catalogues recognize M. ussuriensis as a distinct living species in Northeast Asia. Older regional records may appear under changing combinations or broader species concepts (Mammal Diversity Database; Korean mammal review).
Its accepted distribution includes the Korean Peninsula, the Russian Far East and Japan. Beyond that range and taxonomic placement, the opened species accounts do not supply enough verified detail to state Korean measurements, diet, echolocation, roost sites, breeding or seasonal movements. These fields are intentionally omitted rather than borrowed from other tube-nosed bats. Because Murina species can be difficult to distinguish externally, records should rest on specialist examination or well-documented acoustic and genetic evidence where available (Mammal Diversity Database).
