Zapornia paykullii
Also known as: Porzana paykullii
Rare visitor: recorded only occasionally in this country
Range
Eastern Asia
The band-bellied crake is a rail currently accepted as Zapornia paykullii, although older sources and this catalogue use Porzana paykullii. It belongs to Rallidae, whose small marsh birds are often detected more readily by voice than sight. The opened taxonomic sources confirm its identity but provide limited dependable description, so measurements and detailed plumage characters are not improvised here (IOC-aligned taxonomy; Wikispecies).
The species occurs in eastern Asia, including Korea, but accessible accounts do not adequately document Korean breeding, migration timing, diet or clutch size. Those fields remain blank rather than being borrowed from related crakes. Because several small rails may occur on passage, records should be supported by clear photographs, calls or diagnostic plumage and assessed under the current Zapornia genus placement (IOC-aligned taxonomy).
