The Eurasian wild pig is a heavily built animal with short legs, a thick neck and a head that can account for a large part of its body length. Its wedge-shaped head and powerful neck are adapted for rooting: individuals can break frozen ground and shift substantial stones while searching for food. Adult males have continuously growing canine tusks and often carry a pronounced mane along the back (Wikipedia, general species account).
Females and their young form social groups, whereas mature males are generally solitary outside the breeding season. The species is an adaptable omnivore, taking underground plant parts, nuts, fruit, foliage, invertebrates, small vertebrates and carrion, and its keen sense of smell is central to foraging (Wikipedia, general species account). Its documented native distribution includes both North and South Korea (Mammal Diversity Database v2.4).
