Apus nipalensis

Also known as: Apus affinis nipalensis
AviList (2026) treats this bird as a subspecies, Apus affinis nipalensis, of the Little Swift (Apus affinis), which is not listed separately on this site. IOC lists it as a separate species.

House Swift (Apus nipalensis) is a compact dark swift with a white throat and rump and a shallowly notched tail. Body shape, bill structure, plumage pattern and voice provide the strongest field characters. Age, sex and season may alter its appearance, so identification should combine several features and careful direct field comparisons with similar species in the same habitat (Wikipedia, general species account).

It feeds communally on flying insects over towns and open country and attaches nests beneath roofs, bridges and cliffs. Its movements and social behaviour vary through the year, with breeding birds generally more dispersed and non-breeding birds gathering where food is concentrated. The Korean vertebrate catalogue used for this guide records the species in South Korea (Wikipedia, general species account; Wildlife of Korea occurrence records).
