Basic stats

Range

Eastern Siberia, the Russian Far East, Korea and Japan

Size

Body 42–51mm; tail 31–40mm

Ikonnikov's myotis is a small vesper bat with a reported body length of 42–51 mm, tail of 31–40 mm and wing measurement of 33–36 mm. Several names once applied to Japanese populations, including Myotis fujiensis, M. hosonoi, M. ozensis and M. yesoensis, are now treated as synonyms. External measurements overlap those of similar Myotis, so dependable identification may require more than a brief view or photograph (Wikipedia, general species account; Mammal Diversity Database).

The documented range extends from eastern Siberia and the Ussuri region through Sakhalin, Korea and Japan. A bat-ectoparasite study also sampled M. ikonnikovi in Mongolia, supporting its presence farther west than some summaries indicate. The opened sources establish distribution and identity but do not provide enough Korea-specific evidence to state diet, roost preference, breeding season or viewing locations. Those details remain omitted rather than transferred from Japanese, Russian or related Myotis populations (Scheffler et al. 2016; Mammal Diversity Database).
